Stockton Council’s festival organisers are looking to put together an exhibition of photographs, programmes and people’s memories of SIRF – which started as a one day event and is now recognised as one of Europe’s leading street theatre festivals.

Anyone with photographs and memories they would like to share are invited to send them in. All photographs will be returned as long as a full name and address is supplied. Photographs and other memorabilia can be submitted at Stockton’s Tourist Information Centre in The Shambles.

Electronic images can be emailed to arts@stockton.gov.uk. People are asked to include as many details as possible about the year, performance and memories of the event.

SIRF 2012 will take place from August 2-5 and performers from across the globe will once again head to Stockton for both spectacular, large scale shows alongside small-scale, intimate performances.

Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member of Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “SIRF has grown from the very small beginnings of a one-day event to one of the leading global festivals. Over the years there have been performances which have been breathtaking and will have created special memories for people. “We would love to put together an exhibition of photographs to celebrate SIRF and commemorate its 25 year history. At the heart of SIRF is the audience and this is the perfect opportunity for them to share their thoughts and memories.”

BiDing Time won the £2k Prize with Rantbox and Tangled Feet won the £2k Audience Prize awarded jointly by text voters in Spitalfields and Stockton with The Hide.

The Iron Man was commissioned by Without Walls and Greenwich + Docklands International Festival, supported by Arts Council England.

Nutkhut use dance, film and theatre and music to celebrate contemporary British Asian culture, and Stockton audiences have enjoyed past productions like Bollywood Steps and Movieplex.

This year’s SIRF Finale was one of the most spectacular we’ve ever staged. It was a stunning UK premiere featuring Argentine/Spanish aerial company Voala, with pyrotechnics from Alchemy Fireworks. Taking inspiration from the heady optimism of the 1960s, High! featured a giant, psychedelic mobile suspended from a 120 tonne crane, 13 extraordinary acrobats performing below the mobile and uplifting rock music from Argentine-British band Duchamp Pilot. It was a performance guaranteed to move your emotions as well as your hands and feet. High! finished SIRF 11 in style!
